Its official, Excell-ES Environmental Solutions are confirmed the exclusive UK & Ireland distributors for Heger GmbH, a German manufacturer of screw compactors for foam materials.
Heger compactors are specifically designed to reduce the size of expanded polystyrene foams and expanded polypropylene foams for easier storage and transportation.
The industrial, retail and waste recycling sectors are being forced to review the way in which they manage dunnage packaging waste such foams . Driven by new government legislation, increased transportation costs and an increased awareness of the increase of zero landfill policies the Heger foam compactor Series from Excell Environmental Solutions Limited is already being met with great interest.
The Heger 50:1 compaction system greatly improves the current weight to area ratio this waste stream has suffered in the past. Its log format also lends itself to products in pallets readily loaded by fork lift truck for easy transportation.
The Heger Tiger and Lion compactors are widely used to manage foam waste in food processing plants, factories manufacturing electronics, warehouses storing white and brown goods and retail supermarkets thought out the country. These compactors can efficiently recycle StyrofoamŪ as the screw compactor can compress EPS/EPP foam up to 700kg/m3. The turnkey product is the Compaction Line.
Compared to a melt extrusion densifier, when processing EPS, the auger compactor avoids thermal deterioration and the reduction of the material viscosity. Heger compactors have the advantage of reducing energy consumption while the machines are suitable for discontinuous operation and as the process uses no high source, harmful odours are eliminated. The main process track is manufactured of stainless steel, ideal for fish box applications, to retain the purest end product for maximum market return.
The way in which Heger compactors work is in essence simple: the operator places the foamed parts in the loading hopper of the machine. An efficient pre-breaker with two toothed rotating shaft reduces the shaped parts into pieces 20-50 mm in size, these pieces are forced by an auger into the pressure channel, thereby compacting them. The square block continuously discharged from the machine can be easily separated and loaded onto pallets.
Heger presses compact foam plastics waste to include; EPS, EPP, XPS, EPE, & EPS. Waste streams include; scrap foam packaging blocks, fish and fruit boxes, fast food packaging, white and electrical goods packaging and recycler/waste transfer station waste stream sorting. With this significant volume reduction (up to 50:1) compacted EPS takes up much less storage space in the extruded form (logs)and reduces the environmental impact of unnecessary freight handling. The waste management of styrofoam in this way results in significant cost savings and higher recycle values when compared with conventional disposal methods.
