New Cat machines fitted with state of the art security system

Finning is committed to fitting all future Cat 319D to Cat 345D excavators with Cat Machine Security Systems (MSS).

When equipment is stolen, so is a business's productivity and ultimately profit. To demonstrate its commitment to this ethos Finning is pursuing a campaign to fit all newly delivered Cat 319D to 345D excavators with Caterpillar's Machine Security System (MSS) as a stock feature.

Cat MSS is specifically designed to guard against theft by disabling multiple operating systems of the machine. Caterpillar engineers achieved this through innovative engineering, integrating the Cat MSS directly into the various electronic components, without which it is impossible to operate the machine. Only the Cat MSS key embossed with the owner's unique code is capable of activating the machine, rigorously reducing the risk of theft due to the essentiality of the key.

Finning Product Manager, Mike Sproston explained: "The Cat MSS represents an initiative Finning wholeheartedly supports; to protect your investment in your machine, as well as giving you control over who can start and operate your equipment. Each Cat MSS key contains a unique security code that is checked by the electronic control module when it is inserted into the ignition against a list of pre-programmed keys. If the MSS does not recognise the key being used, the equipment cannot be operated.

"The security system also offers a whole range of programmable features that can be customised to your preference, empowering you with flexible control over access to your machinery. For example, unlicensed operators can be prevented from using machines on which they are not trained; MSS is even programmable to the extent that if you wish for a security key to expire at a certain time and date it will. You can even program a key so it can be used across a whole fleet, so almost any arrangement can be configured to your needs.

DC Ian Elliott of the Police Plant and Agricultural National Intelligence Unit commented: 'Plant theft has been very lucrative for criminal gangs for too long. By Finning installing the Cat designed MSS system their machines will meet Thatcham accredited security standards and will help protect them against being stolen. Finning are to be commended for protecting their customers and end users! "

MSS has been thoroughly tested by insurance consultants Thatcham and has achieved the coveted P2 rating. In conjunction with the CESAR/Datatag scheme implemented last year by Finning the 319-345D excavators are now 3* accredited.

Mike: "Finning is pleased to be able to offer one of the most secure theft deterrent devices available for Caterpillar. The Cat MSS is a testament to Finning's commitment to providing customers with the best equipment available and protecting your carefully considered investment."
