Designed to handle paper, plastic, woven polypropylene, hessian and even nets, Pacepacker's unique Total Bag Control (TBC) System, which supports and guides a bag throughout the closing process, accurately seals even the most difficult to handle sacks to create a consistent premium looking pack and eliminate sack waste.
The TBC, which can be used for a wide variety of sack packing applications including agricultural produce, food and animal feed, closes up to 14 bags per minute in a range of sizes from 2Kg to 50Kg and runs independently or in conjunction with sack placers, most gross and nett weighing systems, and palletising systems also supplied by Pacepacker. "The single most important principle of the TBC system is that it never lets go of the sack after it has been filled, which ensures that a good quality reliable seal is obtained time after time, even on irregular shaped and sized products like potatoes for example," explains Paul Wilkinson, Pacepacker's Business Development Manager.
The system's design incorporates two conveyors on a height adjustable frame to suit different bag lengths and a sack forming mechanism to either stretch bag tops after filling, reform gussets, or both. Once a filled bag has been stretched or gussets reformed, the sack is transferred along the conveyors to a belt feeder that presents the sack top to the sealing device, which is usually either a stitcher or heat sealer.
As well as handling the usual self supporting paper and plastic bags, the TBC system has been designed to will easily handle woven polypropylene, hessian and nets, all of which can be notoriously difficult to handle on an automated system.
As found by premier animal feedstuffs manufacturer, I'Anson Bros Ltd, working as part of a turnkey system with Pacepacker's sack placers and robot palletising equipment, the TBC provides the ultimate solution: "The Total Bag Control System has proven to be highly efficient; we have been able to virtually eliminate sack waste and totally eliminate customer complaints regarding product presentation. Coupled with the installation of three Pacepacker palletiser robots, we have been able to reduce our packing staff by 40%, relocating them elsewhere within the operation," comments Chairman and fourth family generation owner Chris I'Anson.
Numerous tailored machine options can be incorporated into the design of the TBC to meet customer needs including a retracting underposser to settle aerated products in the sack, a choice of hot air, band, radiant or pinch bottom sealers, ticket and label applicators, medium or heavy duty stitchers with or without sack top trim and overtape, sack top fold over, air in sack reduction and dust reduction pads for dusty products. Incorporating the very latest PLC and HMI technology ensures that machine is reliable and runs consistently. With its high-speed communications, the TBC can interface seamlessly with its ancillary equipment, and provides operator feedback via the user friendly HMI terminal. Other features include remote diagnostics and editing, visual fault display and self diagnostic functions. As with all Pacepacker products, the TBC system has an acceptable payback period, yet is built and designed to provide a long term return on investment.
