Malaysian Manufacturing Giant Breaks into UK Market with a 450 Million Deal to Banish Landfill in Peterborough

The UK's first sustainable Energy Park is to be built in Peterborough after developers Peterborough Renewable Energy Ltd (PREL), a subsidiary of Green Energy Parks Ltd (GEP) have signed an engineering, procurement and construction deal worth more than 450 million with Malaysian manufacturing giants, KNM Group Berhad.

The KNM Group, which now operates 19 manufacturing facilities and engineering centres in 12 countries, will also take on the O&M contract for the Energy Park.

Once built the 80MWe Energy Park for Peterborough will take biomass generated from wastes to produce renewable energy and recycle and remanufacture other elements to produce glass, building blocks, metals and compounds.

Green Energy Parks hope that this will be the first in a nationwide network of plants, fundamentally changing the way that we deal with mixed waste in the UK, eliminating all need for future landfill, creating renewable energy and producing higher value goods.

Announcing the deal today, Managing Director of Green Energy Parks, Chris Williams said:

"In KNM Group Berhad we have found a partner who shares our ethos, drive and ambition to deliver a landfill free future.

"We are delighted to be signing this deal which will see our vision become reality in our first Energy Park for Peterborough.

"We look forward to breaking ground and getting the construction phase under way."

Commenting on the deal, KNM Group Berhad Executive Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Lee Swee Eng added:

"We are excited by KNM Group's new partnership with Peterborough Renewable Energy Ltd, which forms a significant part of our drive into the renewable and clean energy sector in the coming months.

"This is a ground-breaking project which will mark an important development in the way that waste is dealt with in the UK."
