New Extended Lime Storage Facilities at Buxton Lime Industries.

New Extended Lime Storage Facilities at Buxton Lime Industries.

Portasilo has recently supplied Buxton Lime Industries (BLI) with a significant extension to their Lime storage facilities at Hindlow quarries in the Peak District.

Two silos, 250 cu/m capacity each are filled by a 150mm diameter pneumatic conveying system.

The silos are installed over a weighbridge for outloading into BLI’s tanker fleet.

As a result of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 (WAHR 05), it is BLI’s policy to access tanker tops via a fixed staircase rather than the tanker’s own ladder.

This presents significant problems for existing facilities, which often lack the space or headroom to retrofit some kind of stair and this was the case at Hindlow Quarry.

A novel solution developed jointly between BLI and Portasilo is the lidding/de-lidding facility which accompanies the aforementioned silos.  This comprises two hydraulic platforms which are raised and lowered to accommodate different tanker heights.  A series of lift up hatches then give access to the tanker ports enabling these to be opened and closed on entry and exit from the site rather than at the individual loading station.

The facility is combined with a vehicle wash and is the second such system provided by Portasilo, the other being supplied to BLI’s Tunstead Quarry.
