New PR 744 Litronic Bulldozer from Liebherr.

- 6th September 2006
- Materials Handling
The Liebherr Series 4 bulldozer range, first introduced two years ago, has now been supplemented by a new model, the PR 744 Litronic. Along with the PR 724 Litronic and PR 734 Litronic, which are already successfully established in the market, this is the third machine in Liebherr's new generation of bulldozers.
The objectives in developing the new PR 744 Litronic were to in-crease the production capacity compared with the previous model, to reduce the operating costs and to further improve driving comfort. Therefore, an important area of design was the basic re-engineering of the complete drive train, while maintain-ing the proven hydrostatic principle.
Highest machine performance
The engine capacity of the PR 744 Litronic is now 184 kW, which is 7 % more than its predecessor and, in order to make the maximum use of this output, the operating weight has also been increased to 28.2 tonnes. The optimised design of the hy-drostatic travel drive has led to increased performance all round.
The machine is controlled by the new fourth-generation Litronic system. The new features of this system include an integral op-erational data memory, which can be read out on the multifunc-tion display. The new Litronic also matches the steering behav-iour of the machine to the driving speed, which further in-creases the working capacity when turning. The PR 744 Litronic automatically employs the counter-rotating tracks function if a particularly tight turn is made, thereby producing superb ma-noeuvrability.
The response speed has also been enhanced. Modern "demand-controlled" hydraulics and the float position incorporated into the single-lever controller, as well as the fast-lowering function, ensure that the working equipment can be controlled quickly and precisely.
The bulldozer's considerably longer tracks also make an impor-tant contribution to maximising working capacity. These enable more pulling force to be transmitted, and the machine runs more quietly.
Clear operating cost advantages
The PR 744 Litronic is the first Liebherr bulldozer to be fitted with the new Liebherr D 936 L diesel engine. With its electronic engine management system, the newly designed unit ensures that maximum torque is always available and, at the same time, the combustion process is controlled so that engine emissions are reduced.
A special challenge in the development of the new drive system was to bring economic efficiency - particularly fuel consumption - in line with the new Stage III/Tier 3 emissions regulations. In spite of increased power and more stringent tolerance on emis-sions, the improved drive, in conjunction with the intelligent Liebherr engine control system, has actually enabled consump-tion to be reduced. The PR 744 Litronic is therefore positioned as the most economic dozer in its class.
Innovative cab ergonomics
Like the other Series 4 models, the PR 744 Litronic features a new and enlarged driver's cab. The ergonomically optimised joysticks for drive and blade control, more generous space, ex-tra storage, and an additional cool box container leave nothing to be desired when it comes to driver comfort.
The new design provides excellent all-round viewing of the working area and equipment. The interior trim in the cab has been improved. The combination of low engine speed and the demand-controlled hydrostatic fan means that the already low noise emissions have been reduced even further for truly quiet operation.
