Not having raced competitively since his outing at Quatar, Nigel Mansell set the fastest time in the limited running practice sessions at the GP Masters at Silverstone on Friday 11th August.
Having blasted around the track in an inspiring 1:37.522 he relegated double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi to second place on the grid.
Two days later on race day, all change for the double world champion....with Nigel probably qualifying for the prize for the most spins in one lap. Spinning three times going to the grid, drive on the car was lost due to the differential exploding. Philosophical as ever Nigel shrugged his shoulders and eventually managed to get out in the middle of the race to give the fans a glimpse of the champion who delighted himself by actually making it back to the pits.
A big round of applause was guaranteed for the champion for making the effort today...............wait while next time!
