Skako supply feeders for new Hanson Frindsbury plant

Skako supply feeders for new Hanson Frindsbury plant
Working with main contractor Centristic of Newton Abbott, Skako Comessa has supplied three feeders for the new Hanson Frindsbury Marine Aggregates Processing Plant.

The three Skako Comessa feeders which were chosen to carry out the principle discharge functions are of the Skako modular design; which in addition to the feeder trough, includes the integral hopper bottom section, incorporating skirt plates, bed depth regulation gate, and pivoting helical coil spring suspension system. All the feeders are galvanised to suit the ‘salty' corrosive environment, and in order to handle the abrasive feed material, both the hopper bottom sections and feeder trays are lined with Hardox 400 replaceable liner plates.

Various grades of raw marine aggregates are transported to the site by ship, and ground stockpiled for plant processing. To achieve the optimum blend of the variable raw material feed stock, the primary feed (through a ground hopper) is partitioned into two, with a Skako feeder located under each side, each arranged to centrally discharge onto the main plant feed conveyor.

Each of the two primary dump hopper discharge feeders is 1000mm wide and individually capable of discharging the required feed rate. However, it is more normal to operate both feeders simultaneously, allowing the optimum blend of raw feed stock to be achieved. In order to efficiently handle the variable feed stock, (generally 20mm down), each feeder is driven by twin unbalanced vibrator motors, with variable feed rate control allowing infinite regulation between approx. 30 -100% of the preset maximum, achieved via electrical frequency inverters.

The third Skako feeder follows the screening process, and allows the optional discharge to ground stockpile of the -20mm marine ballast. A 2-way directional door allows the -20mm product to be further processed through the plant, or extracted by the feeder via conveyor to ground stockpile.

This feeder is 800mm wide and is normally required to operate at infinitely variable feed rates of up to 150tph. However, the feeder is rated in excess of this figure in case the feed analysis differs. In order to deliver the infinitely variable 0 -100% feed rate control this feeder is driven by an electro-magnetic vibrator drive, and regulated via an electrical thyristor controller.

The electrical controllers for all three feeders allow for either manual or automated feed rate regulation.
