Nottinghamshire Recycling Ltd Develop their RDF line with Blue

Nottinghamshire Recycling Ltd Develop their RDF line with Blue
In 2006, Blue Central supplied a bespoke Kiverco recycling plant to their long-standing customer, Nottinghamshire Recycling Limited. Recent developments and a major contract for NRL to provide regular large volumes of RDF material as an environmentally responsible alternative to fossil fuels, meant that a specialist high-volume shredder was required to link to the existing recycling plant for this specific purpose. The RDF is currently being exclusively produced for use in cement manufacture by a well-known global group. Once again, Nottinghamshire Recycling Limited turned to Blue Central for a solution to their needs and, after extensive research and product comparisons, Blue recommended, supplied and installed a Lindner Power Komet 2800 shredder in conjunction with Mach Tech Services, which is now an integral part of the existing recycling plant, generating high-quality RDF as a final and additional process in reclaiming from the landfill material.

Nottinghamshire Recycling Limited is a multi-disciplined company providing a comprehensive recycling and waste collection service throughout the North Midlands counties and Yorkshire. In addition to their modern waste transfer station and a recently installed state-of-the-art washing plant, the company also has a large range of compactors, skips and roll-on-off vehicles and a fleet of bulkers and tippers for waste collection. Products reclaimed from C&D and commercial waste includes RDF, recycled aggregates, compost, soils and wood products for composting, animal bedding and moisture absorption, board, plastics and metals.

The Kiverco recycling plant is comprised of a number of processing and materials handling modules. These consist of a series of free-standing feed, transfer and discharge conveyors, which provide the essential linked materials flows for the processing equipment, a four-bay covered picking station and for stockpiling varied recycled waste materials. Full skirting, impact bars, feedboots with full impact sections, overband magnets for tramp metal extraction and strategically located air separators for "lights" removal are included where necessary throughout the system. Heart of the recycling plant is a Kiverco 830 trommel which screens to specific fractions, including -20mm fines which are sent for further recycling. The plant is capable of a 40 tonnes per hour throughput.

The new Lindner Power Komet 2800 is already proving an invaluable addition to the plant in fulfilling Nottinghamshire Recycling's contract for the supply of the high quality RDF; the plant has sufficient "future proof" capacity in hand to increase output as and when required. Manufactured in Austria by Lindner-Recyclingtech GmbH, this shredder is the largest in the Power Komet range and in this application is taking light fraction from the waste stream, which was previously destined for landfill, and shredding into high specification RDF.

The Power Komet 2800 is a twin drive machine, weighing in at 28 tonnes. Featuring a robust and low-maintenance direct drive system with a safety clutch mounted directly on to the rotor shaft and a generously proportioned 4.5mł hopper with feed opening dimensions of 2825mm X 1700m, the massive rotating knife has a continuous cutting edge through rib-shaped segments which ensure optimum cutting performance; a sickle-shaped hydraulic pusher system ensures problem-free material supply to the rotor. The rotor length is 2.825 metres, the knife is equipped with 80 blades and 16 counter blades and the rotor speed is up to 350rpm; Screens are easily changed by hydraulic operation. The push-button and touch-screen controls can be programmed for material-specific adjustment, also acting as a diagnostic system for maintenance, service and trouble-shooting. A convenient maintenance door allows the knives to be changed quickly and safely and also permits easy service access. A frequency converter optimises performance, reduces energy requirements and provides selective rotor speed control.
