The power train also features a limited slip differential fitted in the front axle. The system enables the telehandler to work in difficult underfoot conditions, and it engages automatically so that the operator can focus on getting work done. The 4-speed powersynchro transmission and torque converter drive system ensures long, trouble-free life in tough applications.
The TH417 features a cylinder and chain driven boom which results in reduced boom weights and improved cycle times, along with a compensating cylinder to keep the pallet forks or work tools parallel when lifting or lowering the boom.
The new Cat telehandler incorporates load sensing hydraulics for higher lifting and digging forces and for the ability to operate all three boom functions simultaneously and proportionally. Smoother, consistent control of the boom and work tool enables the operator to do more work, more efficiently and more accurately.
Designed for operator efficiency and comfort
The TH417 features a new, spacious cab. The operator has all-around visibility due to larger window area. Control placement and single electro-hydraulic joystick control of hydraulics ease the burden on the operator. A transmission disconnect button on the joystick allows the operator to route engine power to the boom for faster boom operation.
A new dashboard features an interactive liquid crystal display that shows machine functions such as engine speed, machine speed, selected gear and direction of travel, and fuel level. A built-in start code device designed to reduce the risk of theft and unauthorized use comes standard.
The telehandler is capable of three different steering modes-two-wheel steer, circle steer and crab steer. Different modes allow for improved control and maneuverability in tight spaces. When changing steering modes, the wheels automatically realign to the proper position.
Versatile and easier to maintain
A wide range of Cat work tools-forks, buckets, and lifting equipment-equip the telehandlers for multiple tasks with different types of materials. The TH417 features a manual IT interface quick coupler as standard, allowing the operator to change work tools quickly. An optional hydraulic quick coupler allows the operator to change work tools more quickly and efficiently without leaving the cabin.
The TH417 offers reduced and simplified maintenance. Routine daily maintenance consists of simply checking the air cleaner indicator, hydraulic filter indicator, fluid levels and engine oil level in conjunction with a walk-around inspection. Service access points are conveniently located under the engine cover.
The TH417 is sized to work productively and cost effectively in a variety of construction, materials supply, and industrial applications. For more information about the new telehandler, customers should contact their local Caterpillar dealer or visit the Cat website at www.cat.com.
