200tph Iron Ore Washing Plant for Jai Balaji Industries

- 12th June 2009
- Materials Handling
Jai Balaji Industries (www,jaibalajigroup.com) have introduced the CDE iron ore washing system to replace their existing mobile dry screening system as they seek to improve the final quality of their iron ore which is subsequently used in a number of their steel manufacturing operations. The washing of iron ore reserves is proven to have many advantages over dry screening, most importantly the removal of many contaminants which have a detrimental effect on the final quality of the iron ore. Another problem faced by Jai Balaji Industries was created by the rainy season in West Bengal. This left the stockpiles of iron ore very wet, which the existing dry screening operation was not able to handle.
Jai Balaji Industries is one of the most well known steel manufacturing companies in Eastern India with manufacturing facilities in four states - West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkland and Orissa. Jai Balaji have an extensive portfolio of products which includes sponge iron, pig iron, reinforcement steel TMT bars, Alloy & Mild Steel Billets, wire rods and Carbon, Alloy and Mild Steel Heavy Rounds.
The introduction of the new CDE iron ore washing system will improve the final quality of the iron ore through an efficient and effective reduction in the levels of contaminants in the raw iron ore. These contaminants such as Alumica, Silica and fine silts and clays create inefficiencies in the steel production process and their effective removal can lead to substantial cost savings in production as well as allowing for the production of high quality steel products.
CDE presented a technical paper on this very theme to the International Mining & Machinery Exhibition (IMME) in Kolkata in November 2008 and this paper can be downloaded from the CDE web site at www.cdeglobal.com/downloads/technicalpapers.html . In summary, this new 200tph iron ore washing plant will create better efficiencies in the steel manufacturing processes of the Jai Balaji Group by producing higher grade ores for use in in the kilns and blast furnaces while also providing high grade iron ore fines for use in the sinter plants.
Following the orders for iron ore washing plants from other leading players in the Indian steel industry such as Electrosteel and Adhunik, the 200tph plant for Jai Balaji Industries is a sign that the benefits of washing iron ore reserves to increase efficiencies in steel production are becoming clear to all the major players in the Indian steel sector.
The plant will be installed and commissioned over the coming months, at which stage a full project case study will be made available for download from the CDE web site. A case study of the project completed for the Adhunik Group in 2008 can be downloaded from www.cdeglobal.com/downloads/casestudies.html
