Pinden Launches New Recycling Plant With Open Day Event

- 2nd June 2009
- Recycling
The open day at Pinden will give visitors the opportunity to see the the full range of Waste management operations including the delivery and collection of skips, the delivery of recycled products using their fleet of transport services and the management and disposal of all construction and demolition waste. There will also be an opportunity to see how the company handles and disposes of hazardous waste at their landfill site, including environmental protection lining and leachate management.
Blue Group, which has been supplying and installing a range of screening, shredding and recycling equipment for Pinden Ltd over the past few months, will be assisting and partnering Pinden with their open day by providing their mobile exhibition unit and demonstrating a wide range of processing machinery in both the quarry and recycling station. Blue will also be displaying Telestack mobile conveyors and showing new mobile crushing and screening plants from TEREX Pegson and Powerscreen, for whom Blue Group is also a major distributor.
The New Kiverco Recycling Plant
Newly installed and commissioned by Blue London, the Kiverco recycling plant is primarily designed and specified for the reclamation of clean secondary aggregates from commingled waste.
The heart of the plant is a Kiverco static KL 835 Trommel which is specifically designed for primary screening and separation. With minimal wearparts and a smooth screening drum, blockages and binding are avoided. Daily maintenance is not a requirement, with only weekly cleaning being necessary to ensure efficient screening and lower operating costs. The Kiverco KL 835 Trommel features a 2400mm diameter screening drum set at an angle of 6º and with an infinitely variable rotation speed of up to 15rpm. The drum is equipped with removable punched plate screen sections and there is a variety of screen plate apertures to suit customers' specific requirements; a selection of woven mesh or rubber-coated screen plates are also available. The drum side chutes are fixed with discharge directly under the drum and hinged side chutes allow drum removal through the side of the trommel.
Incoming raw waste material is fed via a steel apron feeder onto an inclined conveyor belt into the KL 835, which screens out the fines/topsoil with the large fraction carrying on via an oversize conveyor, through a blower system to remove "lights" and then on to the three-bay fully enclosed picking station for sorting. Remaining material passes under an overband magnet to ensure ferrous metals are removed and there is one further blower at the end of the process for final removal of lighter materials to clean up the recyclable aggregates ready for crushing and stockpiling.
Woodwaste Recycling
Woodwaste is a major part of the incoming raw material content recycled at the Longfield site. Last year, Blue London supplied specialist equipment to Pinden for this side of the company's operations.
The wide variety of woodwaste is shredded through a slow-speed Powerscreen Powershredder 2400 which, in turn, feeds a high-speed Doppstadt AK-430K, complete with overband magnet to recover ferrous metals, creating a selection of chippings for both board manufacture and biomass for energy generation.
Residual waste materials destined for landfill are also processed through the Powershredder 2400, significantly reducing the weight and volume. This secondary waste treatment process reduces tip-to-landfill and saves on the costs of disposal and transportation, with all the associated environmental and financial benefits that this brings.
Pinden Quarry
In the quarry at Longfield, Pinden is extracting, crushing and screening high quality chalk for both civil engineering use and, as fines, agricultural soil improvement material. Here, a Powerscreen Warrior 1400 mobile screening plant from Blue London screens and separates up to three product sizes, stockpiling via three hydraulically adjustable conveyors.
All three Doppstadt and Powerscreen plants are crawler-mounted models, allowing site mobility for the equipment to move to wherever it is required during the operations. Movement around the site and fast set-up times add to the equipments' versatility and productivity.
Pinden Group Operations Director, Gary East, is clearly happy with the company's recent purchases from Blue London and welcomes the Group's involvement in their open days "We are a comparatively new customer of The Blue Group, and are enjoying a fruitful and close working relationship with the team at Blue London. Their support will contribute greatly to the success of our event. Our new recycling plant is already playing a significant role in our continuing efforts to extract and recycle maximum materials from the large volumes of incoming raw waste and we look forward to showing our latest addition as well as our other operations to the many customers, local authorities and regulatories we are inviting to come and see us at work". Blue London Managing Director Eugene Donnelly commented "We are pleased and proud to be involved with Pinden in their open day and look forward to not only contributing to the success of the event but also to continuing and growing our excellent relationship with this valued customer."
