Atlas Copco and ITT in alliance to provide energy saving solutions for wastewater treatment market

Stockholm, Sweden, April 8, 2009: Atlas Copco and ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) announced today they have entered into a worldwide strategic alliance, providing significant energy-saving solutions for municipal wastewater treatment plants. Energy-efficient blowers from Atlas Copco's Oil-free Air division are now being jointly offered with ITT aeration and mixer technologies, to reduce energy costs by an average 40% in the secondary treatment phase.

"We expect this partnership to drive sales for both companies and produce significant savings for our joint customers - the municipalities," said Ronnie Leten, President of Atlas Copco's business area Compressor Technique. "They will be getting the expertise of ITT as the world leader in wastewater treatment plant fluid handling, along with the assurance of achieving maximum energy efficiency regardless of setup."

The ITT Water & Wastewater business has determined that 55% of energy costs at treatment plants are incurred by aeration blowers. This led to the decision to collaborate with a blower manufacturer that specified energy efficiency in its core design. The agreement was signed between Atlas Copco Airpower n.v. and ITT Water & Wastewater AB.

"Joining forces with Atlas Copco in this market means we can now offer our municipal customers a more complete solution for reducing energy consumption," said Jan Pedersen, Marketing Manager of ITT Water & Wastewater. John Williamson, President of the company, explained: "Atlas Copco became our obvious choice in view of its energy-efficient ZB and ZS+ range of blowers. Atlas Copco also has a global organization matching ITT's worldwide capacity to provide prompt and reliable after-sales service in some 140 countries."

Rollout of the joint initiative has already occurred in Europe and is now proceeding in North America, Asia and Middle East/Africa. The worldwide market for aeration technologies, coupled to energy-efficient blowers, is considerable.

With its knowledge of energy-efficiency in blower control, Atlas Copco will also support ITT Waste & Wastewater with plant audits, resulting in further optimization of installations and operations.
