The LR 634 STM Litronic has an operating weight of around 23 tonnes, with a tipping load in the region of 13 tonnes. The engine is a Liebherr made D934 L A6 (emission regulations according to 97/68/EC, 2004/26/EC, Stage IIIA and EPA/CARB Tier 3), which develops 135kW at 1800RPM. The special 2,530mm wide heat-resistant bucket on this machine has a capacity of 2m³ and is constructed from Hardox 400 for optimum wear resistance.
The somewhat unusually arduous application for which this machine is designed requires highly specialised features - not only to withstand direct heat radiation but also high temperatures from heat transfer by direct contact through both the bucket and the undercarriage. Additionally, the safety and comfort of the operator is also a priority. Liebherr has equipped the LR 634 STM Litronic with a complete package for heat and abrasive dust resistance.
For the undercarriage, the heavy-duty track frame, track guard and sealed D6 chain with 457mm 3-grouser track shoes are augmented with heat-resistant chains, rollers and grousers. The final drive has a double seal with electronic monitoring and protection ring. The sprocket segments are easily changeable.
The superstructure is equally robust and well protected, with fine perforated plates to the engine housing for dust protection, an isolated diesel tank with guard and high temperature resistant isolation mat, filler guard, heat-resistant and guarded cylinders, radiator protection and lifting lugs. Additional twin rear bumpers and a reversing alarm complete the protective features.
For the attachment, the LR 634 STM has a special slag bucket arm and the tilt cylinder is fully protected with heat-resistant cylinder hoses; the lift cylinder is also fully guarded by both sheet metal and a chain curtain and the hydraulic feed pipe is constructed from solid steel.
In the engine bay, all hoses are isolated using heat-resistant Viton and the machine is filled with Liebherr Basic 100 high temperature oil. An air pre-cleaner, with automatic dust ejector, removes dust particles before they reach the filter by generating a centrifugal force and the alternator is fed with pure air via a hose for optimum cooling. The exhaust system is shrouded to prevent flying sparks and ignition of dust particles.
Liebherr's highly developed hydrostatic drive system remains at the heart of the LR 634 STM, producing excellent manoeuvrability and response. The well-proven high-technology Litronic engine and hydraulics management system ensures optimum output and efficiency at all times, as well as fulfilling a diagnostic role for maintenance and workover.
For the operator, the spacious cab is a comfortable, functional and safe work station for maximum performance. The ROPS and FOPS cab is glazed with 8mm thick toughened safety glass and fitted with a front guard device which comprises an additional window, a tight meshed net against heat radiation and a massive protection grid; an extra cover on the roof prevents material from getting between the window and the guard and, as an option, there is also an additional roof guard with integrated headlights available. Employing the science of ergonomics, the cab is lightly pressurized to prevent dust and odour incursion and is fully air-conditioned.
An air-suspended and adjustable seat, with ventral safety belt, includes twin joystick controls integrated into the armrests - one for travel speed and direction, the other for attachment movements; Liebherr also offers an option of steering pedals via V-pattern travel control. Two extra warning lights are included for fuel reserve and diesel temperature and an hydraulic oil thermometer is also installed. There is even a lockable storage space under the armrest, a cup holder, coat hook and an optional 12v electric coolbox.
Additional safety features include a "Forey" powder fire suppression system and a 6kg fire extinguisher is also installed inside the cab. There are two sets of twin heat-resistant headlights, twin rear lights and flashing beacons on both the roof and rear of the machine.
An optional extra for the LR 634 STM Litronic is a wireless remote control system, which allows the operator to carry out hazardous tasks from a safe distance.
