Online service portal for simple maintenance management from Avery Weigh-Tronix

- Materials Handling
Says Dave Webb, service director for Avery Weigh-Tronix: "Many organisations have thousands of different weighing systems, from laboratory scales right up to weighbridges, and it is often necessary to have current calibration certificates available to demonstrate their accuracy.
"Keeping track of calibration certificates using a paper-based system is a complex task in its own right. Using our new online system, the problem of lost calibration certificates will become a thing of the past."
Each customer portal is a secure password protected site. It enables authorised people to access information about all of their weighing equipment in a way that suits their needs - even if, for example, calibration certificates are for equipment held across multiple sites and contracts. Avery Weigh-Tronix can service both its own and other manufacturer's weighing equipment, to provide a convenient single point of contact.
Continues Webb: "It is vital that weighing equipment is serviced and calibrated regularly. Indeed if you sell by weight, then you must prove that the equipment is accurate to comply with ISO 9000.
"Even if this is not the case, weighing equipment should be regularly tested for accuracy, and adjusted where necessary, since weight represents a vital source of data to control the accurate use of raw materials and to analyse efficiency."
Providing evidence of conformity with calibration certificates is a legal requirement if you trade by weight. If a scale needs major maintenance, which involves replacing parts, then it will need to be re-verified and you must prove this with a calibration certificate. Using a secure online portal means that you can access these certificates 24/7.
Having an online resource also makes the management and recording of service simpler than relying on paper records. Over time an online electronic library will build up, showing how often weighing systems are serviced and calibrated. It will also show the extent to which day-to-day use has affected their accuracy between service visits. This is crucial information for accurately managing scales and gauging the precise level of service needed to keep them within tolerance.
Taking this technology further, Avery Weigh-Tronix has supplied all of its 250 service technicians with palmtop computers. This means that they can collect information about maintenance and service as work is completed and then download the information directly to the online portal. These electronic documents include both the technician's and the customer's signature and cannot be amended since they are security coded.
