Wheel loaders offer twin peaks

- 28th March 2009
- Quarrying
Fitting into the mid sized class of machines, both wheel loaders are made for performance, with features that include the patented Torque Parallel (TP) loader linkage, separate working hydraulic pumps for maximum power, 100% axle differential locks, the famed Volvo Care Cab and long service intervals. The initial roll out commenced in December 2008 concentrating on European markets and the plan is to expand internationally throughout 2009.
The Torque Parallel linkage gives both the Volvo L45F and L50F smooth, parallel lift, high tilt-back torque and good lifting power - right through the lift range. A key element to any wheel loader is visibility, and the L45F and L50F's linkage provides class-leading pallet visibility, along with a clear view of attachments. A wide rollback angle adds to Volvo's already good reputation for retaining loose bucket material, while the parallel lift action makes it suited for material handling and pallet handling.
The wheel loaders feature separate power steering and load-sensing hydraulic pumps. The advantage of this is that separate pumps ensure full steering power is achieved, regardless of the load on the main hydraulic pumps. Oil flow on the load-sensing pump automatically adjusts to match work demand. The result is lower fuel consumption during lighter work - along with no compromise in performance when operating in tough conditions or demanding applications.
Differential locks offer 100% lock in both the front and rear axles, ensuring good traction even in difficult conditions.
Operator comfort has been recognised as a key factor in achieving high machine productivity, and Volvo has fitted its Care Cab to the machines. Each cab is based on fully viscous mounts for reduced noise and vibration. Operators can breathe easy when operating in dusty conditions due to the best-in-class cab filtration system. The interior of each cab is designed with fatigue-resisting ergonomic comfort, ensuring that the steering wheel, steering column, seat, armrest and levers can all be adjusted to perfectly suit each operator. Controls and front-pillar mounted switches are all within easy reach and easy view.
Both the Volvo L45F and L50F are powered by Tier 3 certified water cooled turbo charged Volvo D5 4.8 litre engines. The Volvo L50F engine also includes an air-to-air intercooler. Both achieve high torque at low engine speeds.
