Crushing & Screening Services Adds Powerscreen Plant to Fleet

- 21st April 2006
- Quarrying
Crushing & Screening Services Limited, part of The Raymond Brown Group, has taken delivery of a new Chieftain 1400 mobile screening plant from appointed distributors, Blue Machinery Plc. The new unit joins an impressive fleet of crushers and screening plants which Crushing & Screening Services offers for fixed term contracts or short term hire throughout the UK.
Crushing and Screening Services Limited has been in operation over the past ten years and, as part of the Group’s plant interests, is well-established nationally in both the aggregate extraction and recycling industries. Additional equipment available for hire from the group also includes excavators, loading shovels and ADTs which, when combined with the fleet of crushers and screeners, allows Crushing and Screening Services to provide a total capability in the handling and processing of both "virgin" and secondary aggregates, as well as recyclables from waste raw materials. The Group’s multi-interest nature also includes civil engineering, general construction, property development, haulage, landfill and recycling, all of which are highly complimentary. Around 40% of the hire activities are internal within the Group, with the remaining 60% to a national customer base.
Most of Crushing & Screening’s mobile screening plants are manufactured by Powerscreen and the impressive list includes Warriors, Trommels, Commanders, "wet" and "dry" Chieftains, Finesmasters for sand production, log washers for treating inert "C&D" waste to produce high quality recycled aggregates and a range of Powerscreen conveyors. All the equipment is offered by C&S with trained operators for short term hire or fixed term contract work and can be supplied with full repair and maintenance contracts - the company has a national team of field service engineers supporting its hire equipment throughout the country.
The Powerscreen Chieftain 1400 has many innovative features for efficient and economical screening of quarried materials and inert waste. Mounted on a heavy-duty crawler undercarriage and with hydraulically folding conveyors, it is easily transportable, highly manoeuvrable on site and designed for high volume processing and stockpiling of aggregates, overburden, coal, crushed stone and demolition debris up to 500 tonnes per hour, depending on feed material and screen size.
The large-size hopper has a radio-controlled angle adjustable tipping grid and an optional vibrating grizzly to aid the separation process. The screen unit has a rubber-mounted outer bearing system that reduces the need for regular fine tuning of the four bearing box. Additionally, the patented design for the top deck allows quick and economical replacement of the high-wear section only, this being side tensioned, with the remainder of the screen end tensioned.
Conveyors all have variable speed, with the side conveyors allowing the folding mechanism to provide complete access to the power unit for easy maintenance. All conveyors feature belt scrapers and heavy-duty three-ply belts.
For general transport, the Chieftain 1400 can be reduced to compact and low profile dimensions for road travel. On site, the crawler undercarriage with 500mm trackpads can achieve a travel speed of 0.87kmh and, once in position, the set-up time is, typically, around a mere 15 minutes.
Crushing & Screening’s Mark Isaac commented, "We are very pleased with our new Chieftain plant and we’ve enjoyed a long and fruitful association with Powerscreen and their distributor. We like the equipment’s reliability and Blue Machinery’s after sales back-up is good".
