A & A Recycling Services Combines Shredders and Screening Plant in Woodwaste Processing

- 6th November 2008
- Recycling
A & A Recycling Services, with headquarters at Bentley, near Atherstone, Warwickshire is a well established specialist in the treatment and processing of packaging waste timber, producing a range of clean end products for board mills and woodchip specifically as a biomass fuel for power generation. Additionally, A&A repairs and markets a range of wooden pallets and also offers a comprehensive programme of products for soil improvement, municipal and commercial landscaping and livestock bedding. A & A Recycling Services is a fully accredited producer of high quality woodwaste products and provides a collection and delivery service in the region. In a recent major investment to cope with a significant increase in throughput volumes, A & A has taken delivery of two Doppstadt shredders - a DW-3060K and an AK-530 - and a Powerscreen Warrior 1400 screening plant, all of which have been purchased from appointed distributors, Blue Southern. All three machines work together, forming a high-volume processing and stockpiling plant at A & A's dedicated woodwaste operations at a new site in Packington, near Birmingham's NEC.
The new Doppstadt and Powerscreen units work in tandem for the shredding and separation of sized wood fibre. First, the DW-3060K slow speed shredder processes the incoming "raw" woodwaste material, feeding directly to the high-speed AK-530 for secondary shredding to a smaller grain size. Both Doppstadts are equipped with overband magnets to recover tramp metal, which also have the added benefit of avoiding damage to the machines. The final shredded product is then fed into the Powerscreen Warrior 1400 which screens, separates and stockpiles in pre-determined sizings of 70mm-40mm (40%), 40mm-8mm (50%) and fines of 6mm down (10%). The throughput of this combination is approximately 1,500 tonnes per week, with around 30 tonnes of metal safely recovered from the process by the magnets.
The DW-3060K mobile, slow-speed, heavy-duty shredder is the largest machine in the Doppstadt "DW" range of pre-shredders and has numerous innovative features. These include optimum tooth arrangement on the roller, reversible fan wheel, modified hopper shape for easy loading, electrically controlled roller reversing and a large return conveyor. The DW-3060K has power to spare for the pre-shredding first step in A & A Recycling's impressive operation and this model is mounted on to a crawler undercarriage for site mobility.
The AK-530 is designed specifically for green and wood waste processing, boasting large volume capacities for cost-effective and efficient fine shredding, with the availability of an easily replaceable fine shredding basket. The Doppstadt AK-530 is mounted on a three-axle trailer chassis and has a small footprint for its power and output, being only 11.20 metres in length (15.45 metres including hydraulically folding tail conveyor) and 2.50 metres in width.
The Warrior 1400 is a versatile, high capacity machine which is capable of screening, three-way splitting and stockpiling a wide variety of materials in the most demanding applications. The heavy-duty, low ground pressure tracks on this mobile plant give excellent mobility and on-site agility in spite of its size and optimum output potential. One of the most flexible screening machines on the market today, the Warrior 1400 has screen angles which are hydraulically adjustable. The bottom deck features a special "Flex-Mat" screen media from Major Wire that is exclusive to TEREX Powerscreen. This innovative product delivers more through-put in blinded, pegged and clogged applications. Polyurethane strips, centred on each screen deck crown bar support, allow individual wires to vibrate independently at different frequencies, preventing material from accumulating between wires as it typically does with woven wire - and Flex-Mat can last up to 3 times longer than woven wire. All the stockpiling conveyors are oversize, hydraulically folding and angle adjustable to maximise stockpile heights.
A&A Recycling Services has had a long association with Blue and, in continuing their allegiance to this major distributor, states that one of the main reasons for this excellent working partnership is Blue's ability to provide cost-effective solutions to materials processing needs with their expertise and varied range of quality plant and equipment distributorships. A&A Recycling Services' managing director Andy Garbett commented "We are delighted with the plants we have recently bought from Blue Southern. We believe that there is no other equipment on the market which could handle the materials and tonnages we ask of these machines". Blue's Area Sales Manager, Robbie McKernan added "This is another example of where we have been able to supply the right solution with mobile equipment capable of producing capacities and throughputs which were only usually found in large static installations".
