Thanks for the demonstration…we’ll have it!

Robin Concrete & Recycling Limited, founded by Robin Thornham and based in Hull, East Yorkshire, operates from Foster Street Recycling Centre in Hull, where the company concentrates on recycling and also operates a ready-mixed concrete plant served by their own fleet of truckmixers. Over the past couple of years, the waste volumes for the recycling business have grown considerably and, needing to increase the processing throughput, the company turned to Blue Group for a solution to their problems. "We've worked with the Blue team for many years" says Robin Thornham "and they suggested that a Doppstadt AK-430K tracked shredder would be the answer to our predicament, offering the machine for demonstration. This was such a success", continues Mr Thornham, "that I told Blue to leave it where it was as it's now sold!"

Robin Concrete & Recycling has a 10 acres site at Foster Street, where they process mainly green and building timber waste, in addition to some element of comingled waste from the surrounding areas - both delivered by other contactors as well as collected by their own fleet of skip lorries. The group is also heavily involved in a landfill restoration project where they are re-screening, washing and replacing non-recyclables as well as extracting and processing secondary aggregates, which are predominantly used for non-structural concrete production in their own ready-mix plant. The shredded and composted green and timber waste from the Foster Street Recycling Centre in Hull is playing an important rôle at the defunct 20 acres landfill site, where it is used for soil improvement in the restoration process. The company was the first in the UK to purchase a Backhus LT in-vessel composting turning machine and this blends the shredded wood and green materials with liquid waste to produce the compost. Robin Concrete & Recycling also has plans afoot to further develop their recycling and composting activities, with a view to obtaining the necessary quality standards and accreditation for production of saleable compost materials.

The Doppstadt AK-430K Mobile Shredder purchased by Robin Concrete & Recycling from appointed distributors Blue is designed and built specifically for green and wood waste processing, with large volume capacities for the effective and efficient chipping and shredding of tree-trunks, roots, pallets and building timber waste, green and organic waste. This crawler-mounted mobile version is agile and manoeuvrable and can be quickly and easily moved around the site.

A high-speed shredder, the Doppstadt AK-430K has a number of operational, safety and maintenance features. These include hydraulically folding conveyor for swift set-up time, large maintenance access doors and centralised lubrication points, patented load sensing material feeding system and easily replaceable flail tips to suit the materials that are to be shredded. Robin Concrete & Recycling's AK-430K is equipped with a remote control which is located in the cab of the grab-equipped excavator that feeds the shredder. The operator easily and remotely activates the Doppstadt as soon as the hopper loading operation begins, with complete control over the shredding process without having to leave the cab.

"We're very satisfied with our new Doppstadt shredder" says Robin Thornham "and, having worked with the Blue team for some 15 years, we have built a very comfortable working relationship which continues to be an amicable and beneficial partnership, both during the purchasing process and in their after-sales product support".
