Another Specialist Forestry Attachment Joins the Liebherr-Rental “Armoury”!

Another Specialist Forestry Attachment Joins the Liebherr-Rental “Armoury”!

Following on from a number of recent attachment purchases for its growing hire fleet of industry-specific specialist excavators and materials handlers, Liebherr-Rental Limited has added an innovative tree shear to the collection.

Purchased from Europe Recycling Equipment BV, the 16" (41cms) Tree Shear is a hydraulic feller/buncher attachment suited to any of Liebherr-Rental's tracked or wheeled excavator fleet of 20 tonnes operating weight and, weighing in at 1,769kg, is the largest in the Europe Recycling Equipment range, although the company says it can design and build even bigger models to suit specific customer requirements. Featuring a tree clamp, accumulator clamp for two to three trees and a powerful hydraulic shear knife, the attachment is compatible with Liebherr's own Likufix fully automatic quick-hitch and Tool Control systems, which allow the carrier machine operator to change attachments and adjust hydraulic service flow and pressure without leaving the cab.

The Tree Shear is capable of clamping and shearing trees up to 41cms in diameter. The accumulator feature allows the operator to hold cut trees and saplings whilst shearing further trunks and has a total clamp capacity of up to 2,613cm².

The Tree Shear is predominantly used in forest thinning applications, where saplings and small trees can be felled and removed in one operation and, by being held in the vertical, avoids entanglement with remaining trees and secondary handling, which would be the norm when using traditional chainsaw methods where timber is felled to the ground, has to be moved to a collection point and then placed on the removal vehicle. Additionally, this feller/buncher is also particularly useful in urban areas, where a tree felled by chainsaw might prove problematical due to adjacent properties, overhead wires and so-on. By holding vertically and then shearing with this attachment, the tree can be safely removed and precisely placed without encountering obstacles or hazards during the operation.
