Blue Machinery Launches New Fine Shredder For RDF Production

Blue Machinery Plc announces the availability of a new recycling plant, specifically designed and constructed for the production of non-fossil fuel from unprocessed industrial, commercial and household waste. The high calorific value fuel end product is suitable for use in waste incineration, waste-to-energy plants and cement works. Based around the new Doppstadt DW2860 Duplex shredder, the RDF plant is yet another step towards the environmentally friendly approach to energy generation while, at the same time, continuing the vital reduction in waste-to-landfill volumes.

Approximately 400 million tonnes of household, industrial and commercial waste is currently produced in the UK annually - and this huge volume is increasing steadily year by year. With legislation focussed on driving sustainable waste management forward and the ever-increasing awareness of both the value of recycling and its significant contribution to reducing landfill disposal, the recycling industry and its equipment providers are constantly striving to find new ways to improve reclamation processes. The new Doppstadt DW2860 Duplex system joins the growing Blue Machinery "armoury" in the fight towards the even more effective use of waste.

Raw waste material is pre-sorted to remove unwanted "foreign bodies" such as stone, concrete, large metal elements and so-on. A heavy-duty shredder and overband magnet system is effective in pre-shredding and removing tramp metals from the material, prior to processing through the DW2860 Duplex for RDF production.

The Doppstadt DW2860 Duplex is a low-speed, double shaft fine shredder with a fixed counter blade. The 4m long, 1m wide discharge conveyor runs at a speed of 2m/second. The 600mm diameter 2,800mm long rollers, equipped with specially tempered steel cutting plates, rotate in the opposite direction to the centrally located counter blade. The rollers’ surfaces are specially treated to produce optimum efficiency in fine shredding, thereby reducing wear and any related downtime for repair, replacement or maintenance. Accessibility for inspection and maintenance is further improved by hydraulically operating side doors and these also provide the access points for the replaceable screening plates that determine final grain sizes.

Power is provided by twin 210kW DC electric motors with a speed rating of 2,000 RPM. The transmission is via flexible couplings and planetary gears. The separate motor housing is conveniently located away from the shredding area and on the front of the plant. All controls are incorporated in one centralised control panel and are simple to use. The panel can either be installed on the plant next to the motor housing or, if desired, installed remotely at a separate control station using an optional distribution box and associated cabling.

Output for the DW2860 Duplex is, typically, between 5 and 15 tonnes per hour, depending on feed material and specified grain size.

Blue Machinery can provide a turnkey service in the design, installation and commissioning of RDF plants based on the DW2860 Duplex machine and can also supply customers with service and maintenance agreements to ensure optimum, trouble-free productivity.
