New Forklift Scale Provides Fast and Flexible Weighing Solution for The Waste and Recycling Industry

- 8th March 2006
- Recycling
Avery Weigh Tronix has launched an onboard forklift scale for the waste and recycling industry that lifts, weighs, moves and records a load in one operation. It retrofits onto either a forklift truck or a vehicle’s on board forklift mechanism.
The system transforms forklifts into scales that deliver trade approved weight verification of a palletised load. It means that the industry can now accurately record such loads every time they are moved. Currently if a load needs checking it is moved to a floor scale, unloaded, weighed and then lifted again.
If the scale is attached to a forklift truck the system can guide the driver through the loading process to maximise capacity for outward-bound trailers. Correct loading avoids health and safety hazards, fines and the expense of incident cleanups. For outward bound vehicles printed proof of due diligence proves that the vehicle is fit to travel in the event of a roadside spot check.
The Avery Weigh-Tronix scale is designed for harsh operating environments. The company claims that it is the most durable system available.
Its patented Weigh Bar® weight sensors and out-of-level compensation delivers accurate readings even when fork positions change, when wheels are on uneven surfaces or if the mast is tilted. The heavy duty carriage comes in a range of widths to fit any ITA class II and class III cleat type forklift truck and can be fitted with a choice of instrumentation to suit the application.
The general purpose WI-125 indicator is EU trade approved, requires minimal space and is simple to operate with easy to read large digits on a backlit LCD display. Six soft touch keys allow weight to be checked and recorded in several configurations alongside date and time. An RS 232 port allows this information to be printed for documentation and proof of weight.
An advanced option, the SimulCast WI-130 indicator is available for more sophisticated data management. It provides organisations with a simple and efficient solution for capturing, integrating and managing weight data within their own management systems. The system stores up to 750 records and can produce data and reports in several different formats. SimulCast WI-130 supports bar code scanners, infra red transceivers and RF communication for wireless data transfer.
