Is it a lamb? Is it a banana? No, it’s a CEMEX Superlambbanana made with the help of recycled concrete.

Anyone visiting the City of Liverpool can't help but notice some of the 125 two-metre tall replicas of the Superlambbanana sculpture, originally made by Japanese artist Taro Cheizo, to celebrate Liverpool the Capital of Culture 2008.

CEMEX has joined in the celebrations by creating its very own CEMEX Superlambbanana complete with hard hat. The company has also provided the concrete bases fitted to secure each and every one of the 125 mini Superlambbananas placed throughout the city.

The concrete bases, made at the CEMEX Liverpool readymix plant, are 2 metres long and 1.3 metres wide made from 0.3 cu metres of ready mixed concrete. They were all made of recycled concrete, either returned concrete that had been over ordered by a customer or trial mixes done at the plant.

These creative pieces of art, made from fibreglass, have been decorated by artists, schools and community groups and have been placed around the city centre and suburbs.

The Superlambbananas will be decorating the streets of Liverpool until the end of August and the CEMEX creation is being raffled for charity amongst its employees.
