Caterpillar® hands over the 100,000th mini hydraulic excavator

Caterpillar celebrates a milestone event of the 100,000th mini hydraulic excavator sales worldwide by producing an exclusive silver machine. Last week Caterpillar handed over the 100,000th mini excavator to a German company Matthäi, which added to the other 30 Caterpillar machines in their fleet.

Richard Cooper, Managing Director of Caterpillar's Building Construction Products in Europe said: ‘the mini hydraulic excavator business is very important to Caterpillar. We have been building the machines for more than ten years now and continually developed them to meet the customers' needs of reliability, durability and ease of maintenance. We are delighted to have reached such a milestone and that Matthäi is helping to celebrate the event'.

Caterpillar supplies its mini hydraulic excavator range from plants in Japan and the UK. The UK site based in Desford, Leicestershire, manufactures and exports models less than 3 tonnes along with backhoe loaders, and compact and small wheel loaders. Caterpillar employs over 12,000 people in the UK alone, of which 1000 are based at the company's facility in Desford.

Matthäi, founded in 1933 and headquartered in Verden, Lower Saxony, employs 1,500 people and its main activities include road construction, track construction and paving. The company will use the 100,000th mini hydraulic excavator as a demonstration machine covering all Matthäi's branches in Germany.
