Healthy Stock Levels Continue at IMS Despite Global Shortages

IMS UK, leading distributors and processors of abrasion resistant and high yield steels, are still maintaining healthy stock levels for their UK customers despite current global shortages in certain product areas.

Part of the international IMS Group, with offices in 15 European countries and North America, IMS UK are in the position to offer increased stock availability from the group stock. "IMS UK has a current stock availability of 160,000 tonnes of specialist steel" stated Adrian Hance, Divisional Director. "Our relationship with leading steel mills is such that, both as a group and in the UK, we are able to plan for the foreseeable shortages and stock accordingly" continued Adrian.

The steel shortage in certain product groups, caused by lack of production capacity, took hold in 2004 and looks set to stay for the foreseeable future, with the surge in demand from China and the Far East showing no signs of slowdown. Whilst there is no marked reduction in general steelmaking and rolling capacity, particularly in Europe, the availability of raw material supplies is beginning to threaten certain production.

Supplies are less readily available in thicknesses of over 20mm, but IMS continue to retain a comprehensive stock profile with adequate supplies in a full product range- their relationship with mills and group buying power proving advantageous.
