Van Dalen adds more Terex® Material Handlers

MOTHERWELL, SCOTLAND, June 26, 2008 - - - The UK division of the Dutch-owned international group Van Dalen Metals Recycling and Trading has purchased three new Terex Terex® Material Handlers for its widespread and expanding metals processing and shipping operations across England. This delivery is in addition to two units supplied last year.

The new machines are Terex® TM350s, German-built and equipped with straight material handling booms and cactus grabs for sorting, rehandling and loading scrap metal at Van Dalen's yards in Dagenham, Chatham and at Hartlepool Docks.

The standard 33.5t TM350 provides a maximum outreach of 15.9m, but the 34.2t machine installed at Hartlepool has been equipped with factory-fitted options of an extra-long boom and stick arrangement (10.6m + 7.7m) to give up to 18m outreach and a grabbing depth of 10.99m. It also has an elevating cab with a 1.2m extension tower, giving an eye-level height of 6m above ground and a clear line of visibility for the operator into the ships' holds.

This special build has been possible because of the renowned inherent strength of the Terex® TM chassis and the strong four-square integral hydraulic outriggers, which give excellent stability. It can reposition quickly and accurately to optimize loading and trimming, thereby ensuring a fast and efficient turnaround for the ships.

The main bulk loading of ships at Hartlepool (up to 15,000t capacity) is carried out by large-capacity mobile dockside cranes, but the Terex® machine provides essential quay-side support for sorting and managing the stockpiles of different graded materials, and for the final top-loading, trimming and closing of the ships' holds.
