The 2008 FUCHS Motorbike Giveaway.

- 14th May 2008
- Materials Handling
FUCHS is giving one lucky winner the chance to ride off on their own monster machine; a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure - the ultimate long-distance endurance motorcycle, worth over £12,000. This year though, there is a slight twist to the proceedings...
Keen television viewers and wannabe globetrotters will be aware that this is the same bike that Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode on their epic journeys in Long Way Round and Long Way Down. The bike will have completed its own adventure though, when it's ridden by two FUCHS UK employees in a gruelling 4000 mile, 2 week round trip to Kiev in the Ukraine, all in the name of charity.
Proceeds raised from the bike ride will be going to the UNICEF Kids in Kiev appeal, which supports children who have been physically and emotionally affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The convoy, which leaves the UK on 14th June 2008, sees 19 riders travelling across several Northern European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic. The last event, in 2006, raised an astonishing £40,000 for UNICEF and the money helped to support a range of children's projects in Kiev.
The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is truly indestructible; no desert, mountain or river can stop it. It is a bike that can take you to the ends of the earth - over all terrains and in all conditions - comfortably, safely and reliably.
As well as a number of dealer fitted extras and accessories, including two water tight aluminium side cases and a topcase, heated hand grips, and Bluetooth® enabled BMW Motorrad Europe Navigator, the bike comes a with an array of amazing features as standard. With a 33-litre fuel tank, 105 BHP and a top speed of over 200 km/h, the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is THE motorcycle of choice for hard core travellers. It has been tested on some of the world's toughest routes to ensure that every journey, even your ride to work, is an adventure.
To enter this fantastic free competition and be in with a chance of winning, go to www.fuchslubricants.com for further information. If you would like to make a donation towards the biker's appeal for children in the Ukraine, please contact the UNICEF fundraising team on fundraisinghelp@unicef.org.uk
The 2007 motorbike giveaway was won by Christopher Benson, 47, who works as a Factory Supervisor for Premaberg Manufacturing Ltd in Halstead, Essex. Christopher plans to travel around Europe on his new Honda CBR 600F in the future, once he has got his motorcycle license.
FUCHS would like to thank Tennant Group Ltd for their generous help with the rider's jackets!
UNICEF
UNICEF, the UN agency for children, is the world's leading development organisation working with families, local communities, organisations and governments in 191 countries specifically for children; protecting and promoting their rights, regardless of politics, religion, race or colour.
Established in 1946 as a temporary organisation to help children devastated by World War II, UNICEF has evolved into a permanent beacon for millions of children. UNICEF helps children receive the support, health care and education they need to survive the threats of childhood poverty - such as preventable disease and malnutrition - as well as protect them from violence and exploitation.
UNICEF does not receive any funding from the UN and therefore rely on voluntary donations to continue their life saving work.
UNICEF Kids in Kiev Appeal
The legacy of the Chernobyl power plant disaster in 1986 still affects the health, social, emotional and economic lives of more than 3.5m people, 1m of which are children.
Many of the children today suffer from iodine deficiency, which causes goitre (enlargement of the thyroid gland, appearing as a swelling at the front of the neck) and learning difficulties. There has also been a reported increase in leukaemia and thyroid cancer among children in the area.
