More material handling capacity for Shoreham Port

More material handling capacity for Shoreham Port

With a very long history going back to Roman times and considerable development from the late fifties onwards; Shoreham today is a busy port offering first class facilities for commercial enterprise. Some of the port’s vast commercial facilities include 36,000 metres of covered warehouse, 10 hectares of open storage area, and a bulk handling terminal.

With an increasing amount of cargo movement the port has to have the capacity and specific capability to handle this. The efficiency of the port is well known in the industry and it has an established reputation for a fast turnaround of vessels, just one of the added value services that place Shoreham apart from other ports.

With the future firmly in their sights in maintaining an up to date fleet of cranes the Port Company has just taken delivery of a Sennebogen Green Line 870M special with a MS 100 mobile undercarriage from the UK Distributor E.H.Hassell of Stoke on Trent. This machine is a special materials handling machine with a very robust configuration with special boom kinematics and a service friendly arrangement.

With a state-of-the-art efficient hydraulic system using load sensing technology the machine has a powerful swing drive via two swing gears with large dimensioned swing bearing in a 3-row roller version. A wheeled undercarriage type MS100 with 4-point swing outriggers provides an outriggers base of 9.5 x 6.5m with individual control. The machine has strong 70t wide gauge axles, infinitely variable 1-axle-travel drive via one hydraulic variable displacement motor and all wheel steering provide an extremely versatile machine.

Powered by a water cooled Deutz diesel engine BF6M 1015 CP 300kW /1900 rpm the machine has a special materials handling boom with a reach of up to 24m. This consists of a 14m curved compact boom (banana boom) and an 11m grab handling stick with special materials handling kinematics. The boom and stick cylinders feature end position damping including safety check valves for lifting cylinder and an end position shut off boom up/down and stick in/out function.

The 870M is also fitted with a type 600 skylift-cab which offers the latest in operator comfort and visibility. With a 1.5m wide cab complete with a front big ground window
the hydraulically adjustable cab offers adjustment within a range of 6m.

Port Manager, Alan Motterham commented, "the 870M special has been in use at Shoreham now for the past four months, it has been used on various attachments and proved to be an excellent machine discharging and loading various commodities, improving our discharge/load rates considerably. We are very happy with the equipment and recommend it for small to medium size ports like ours."
