Skako Vibratory Feeders efficiently handle feed for Wagg Foods.

Situated near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, Wagg Foods Ltd. is a leading value manufacturer of quality pet foods in the UK. Their comprehensive range includes complete dry dog food, complete puppy food, rabbit and other smaller animal foods.

Recently, Skako supplied the process engineering company Game Engineering Ltd, with another dust-proofed vibratory feeder. Destined for Wagg Foods the feeder will interface into the production line to transport nutritional feed mix into a mixing machine.

Since 2003 eleven Skako vibratory feeders have been installed on the Wagg Foods site with the majority providing a controlled feed of pet food biscuits from hopper to belt conveyor, or transporting feed into the production process from their ‘big-bag' hopper station.

All of the feeders are based on the basic Skako design philosophy whereby each feeder is supplied as a complete modular package. Simple to install with Skako taking complete responsibility for the correct operation and extraction.

Each feeder has been supplied inclusive of an integral flanged inlet section complete with skirt plates, manually adjusted bed depth gate, pivoting helical spring suspension arrangement, and full dust sealing system. Each feeder is simply bolted to a mating flange on the hopper and the feeder self supports from this flange, ready for operation.

The Skako electro-magnetic drive is fitted to each of the feeders proportioning pet food biscuits from hopper to belt conveyor. These are lightweight super critically tuned units, which are not affected by a varying head load, resulting in a constant and repeatable feed rate. Thyristor controllers give 0 - 100% feed rate adjustment, with instant stop/start which can be either manually regulated by a potentiometer, or automatically from an external signal, allowing totally automated control. The feeders handling the simple fixed speed transfer of feed mix from one operation to another are fitted with twin unbalanced motors.
