Skako screen solves a sticky problem

Skako screen solves a sticky problem
Skako Comessa have developed a scalping screen to handle ‘sticky' and difficult to handle materials, which would otherwise cause blinding and product adherence on conventional units.

These units have been proven on applications on the continent, and include handling moist sand and gravel with ‘sticky' and ‘claggy' deposits, ‘all in' limestone and waste recovery duties, including slag and coal.

The critical component of the screens is the special forged tines which are utilised. With a sculpted tapering design, each tine is forged from silicon manganese spring steel, having high stress resistance under dynamic loading, in addition to enjoying high levels of wear resistance.

Each individually replaceable tine has an active length of 600 mm, tapering ultimately to a point. In general, they can process material up to 200 mm, and often have nominal sized scalping apertures set between 40 to 100 mm.

When utilised on a unit with twin unbalanced motors or exciter drive giving a linear displacement, high capacity efficient scalping can be achieved. The screens can be supplied in either open or totally enclosed designs.

Already in January this year, Skako have delivered four totally enclosed screens with tines to process coal, and in March will supply two further units to handle an ‘all in' primary crush limestone.
