We are specifically looking for quarry restoration to be recognised as a "recovery" activity in line with many other EU members and the intention of the current revision of the EU Waste Directive; and with clear guidance to ensure a level playing field within the UK. This would also meet the criticisms made in the Davidson report that the EA should adopt a more risk-based and proportionate approach and to reduce the regulatory burden on business with a lighter touch.
