About Us
In 1906 Olof N. Tevander, a plant superintendent with American National Can, patented a promising fastener design, interlocking steel belt lacing, that caught the attention of George E. Purple and Albert B. Beach, two employees of Addressograph Company. The next year George E. Purple, Albert B. Beach and Phillip S. Rinaldo formed Flexible Steel Lacing Company to buy Tevander's patent and manufacture its design. In April of 1907 they opened a small office and workshop in Chicago, IL. Their mission was to manufacture a metal hinged joint lacing that would replace rawhide lace, the most common method of joining transmission belts at that time.

Just three years later an advertising pamphlet, designed by Bess Beach, caught the attention of J.B. Stone, owner of an industrial distribution firm in London, who quickly began ordering large quantities of the Alligator design. This provided Flexible Steel Lacing Company with both the finances and international credibility they needed to grow.

In 1971 the company moved to a new, custom-built manufacturing facility in Downers Grove, IL, Flexco's current headquarters, and expanded its North American sales force to reach the entire United States and Canada. In 1984 Flexco established their first international subsidiary in the United Kingdom. Today, Flexco has subsidiaries located in Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, Africa and Australia.
