History:

Red Rhino Crushers LimitedTM was founded in July 2004 by Colin Campbell, now Technical & Development Director. He has been involved in the concrete and aggregate market for many years and predicted a strong demand for smaller crushers that were portable.

The company designs and manufactures a range of compact, transportable, diesel powered crushers enabling the onsite recycling of demolition and building/construction waste. Using a Red RhinoTM crusher therefore reduces landfill, reduces aggregate extraction and promotes environmentally friendly business practice.

With so much refurbishment going on within the towns and cities across the UK and the rest of the world, Mr Campbell, thought it to be an obvious decision to design machines capable of simple function with dual cost saving. Use of the Red RhinoTM crushers enables any operation to benefit from recycling material alongside the added cost savings associated with waste disposal and aggregate delivery.

There was clearly a gap in the crusher market and Red RhinoTM rapidly became the name synonymous for mini crushers throughout the industry. Potential customers come to visit the Red RhinoTM factory from all over the world and agree that the positive potential these machines have on the environment is phenomenal.

Red RhinoTM is now headed up by Tim Mitchell and within the past year new development processes along with recognised quality assurance and manufacturing processes have been introduced.

The company produces three models, the 4000 series, the 5000 series and the 7000 series, which are entirely British, designed and engineered. Both the 4000 and 5000 series can be transported to site on a trailer and purposefully designed to fall within the towing restrictions within the British Isles. The bigger 7000 series can also easily be transported on a heavy duty trailer or a beavertail.

All the models feature jaw-crushing characteristics usually found in other products far larger but the unique design of Red Rhino CrushersTM have meant that all three products feature a host of safety features and have extremely resilient function.

The 4000 series have a jaw aperture of 400mm x 170mm and weights 1,400kg. The crusher has a powerful Perkins 14hp water cooled diesel engine and will easily travel through a standard doorway. It can crush a full UK kerbstone in approximately 40 seconds!

The 5000 series have a jaw aperture of 500mm x 250mm, weights 2,940kg and will crush up to 20 tonnes per hour, depending on the loading method.

The 7000 series a dedicated secondary building and demolition debris recycler, capable of producing in excess of 50 tonnes per hour of recycled material and weights 9,500kg. Both the 5000 and 7000 have vibratory tray feeders along with remote control and overband magnetic tramp removal systems, with the new Deutz engine configuration.

Recycling and the reduction of landfill is a strong driving force behind the designs from Red RhinoTM and all products have special dust suppression features which are both simple to use but, extremely effective in reducing air-born particulate dispersion.

With simple design and function these British designed crushers are one of the most important manufacturing success stories to come out of the UK.

The Red Rhino range of recyclers is innovative for two main reasons:

  • a) It benefits the environment hugely by preventing building waste to go to landfill but also stops further aggregate extraction from the earth.
  • b) It benefits our customers by encouraging onsite recycling and saving them huge amounts of money on skip hire, haulage, buying new aggregate, manpower, continuously rising landfill charges, space and time.

As previously described, Colin Campbell realized there was a gap in the market as there were no other smaller, compact crushers available except for the very large machinery such as Terex crushers. It was also an obvious decision to design a crusher which could be easily transported directly to the site where access might be an issue and with refurbishments going on everywhere within towns and cities; it makes perfect sense to encourage onsite recycling.

Government statistics says by 2012, if the UK demand increases by an expected 1% per annum, 20 million tonnes of extra aggregates will be needed each year and from April 2008, the Aggregates Levy will increase by another 22%!

The only solution to this demand is to stop paying to send valuable rubble to landfill and to profit by crushing it into recycled or secondary aggregates.

The Red Rhino range of recyclers has and will continue to benefit the environment, existing customers and future customers. Being it landscapers, builders, constructors, transfer stations, local authorities or plant hire companies, money can be saved as well as made by owning a Red Rhino.
